“Greenwood is the same special place it was when I was a kid. It's beauty and the community of family and friends make it our happy place! The beach and pier quickly entice us into the water - so clear we can see to the bottom - 8 feet down! Fishing, reading, taking a nap or heading out in the kayak--there's truly something for everyone."
- Eileen and Tom, members since 1991

For outdoor and nature lovers
During the summer season, Greenwood Lake is that place for swimming, small boat sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, rowing boats, and windsurfing.
Our fresh water lake has some of the best fishing in the Northeast, including largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, trout, sunfish and blue gill. To keep the lake pristine, only electric trolling motors can be used.
Any season is ideal for hiking on its trails; bird watching is superb year-round with frequent sightings of eagles, herons, kingfishers and ospreys. It's a stopover for several migrating bird species including Canada geese, snow geese, and loons.
Look down and you'll see turtles, frogs, salamanders, and even an occasional resident beaver. Wild turkeys and white tailed deer roam the land; members sporadically spot red fox and coyote, and there's usually at least one family of black bears.
During hunting seasons, our wooded acres hold a strong population of white-tailed deer.
For adults
Greenwood Lake is the ultimate location where you can completely unwind, relax, and rejuvenate at your own pace. Let yourself luxuriate in the natural scenery, savor quiet time or swim, read a book, fish, row a boat, enjoy a picnic, have a cocktail at sunset, and be part of a community that comes together to relax and live the good life, any day of the week.
For children
At Greenwood Lake, kids can experience life and nature. It's where they catch their first salamander, see their first turtle, listen to their first campfire story, and make their first friends outside of their school or neighborhood. And it's the place where they form childhood memories and traditions they'll pass on to their children.
For culture and history buffs
Greenwood Lake was originally created in 1903 as a reservoir to support coal mining operations and has since become a legacy in a region rich with culture and history. The No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum in Lansford and historic Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, are just minutes away. And the nearby Hometown Farmers Market is open every Wednesday. Greenwood Lake is a place of heritage and new experiences.

A chair-lined porch overlooks the recreation area's hub: a sandy beach and pier, with a raft kids have spent summers swimming to and from. The beach is flanked by rowboats, kayaks, and canoes, plus a swing set and jungle gym. are stowed nearby. A bath house offers changing rooms and bathrooms.
Long picnic tables fill the pavilion, situated next to the grill area. Just past those lies the quoits area and a shuffleboard court. An open field for pickup ball games and tennis courts are just down the road.
The two cabins that members can rent were originally built by the Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company from the 1920’s through the mid 1940’s; both have screened-in porches overlooking the lake and a private fishing piers with rowboats. The larger cabin, which sleeps 14 (bring friends!) is an excellent example of a Victorian balloon architecture with high ceilings, an open ball room-type living space and a balcony overlooking the entire downstairs. The smaller cabin, rebuilt in 2013, is a log cabin that sleeps 10.

"Our kids' excitement brims when we arrive at Greenwood for the day. Where to start? Catching salamanders? Playing water games at the raft? As Rhian shares with them her favorite Greenwood stories from her childhood, we see them creating their own. Days at Greenwood are some of our most cherished family moments.”
- Rhian and Paul, members since 2017

At Greenwood, you're more than a member, you're part of the family.
All members buy a share, are part owners of the Club, and pay yearly membership dues. The Club is managed by an elected Board of Directors who are responsible for both the fiscal and physical welfare of the Club. Members are encouraged to serve on committees that assist the board throughout the year. An annual meeting for all members is held in August, followed by a convivial potluck dinner and outdoor fun.
